Welcome!

Hello, my name is Ben Tice. Currently, I'm the Research and Data Librarian at Biddle Law Library at the Penn Carey School of Law at UPenn.

I earned my MLIS from the University of Washington's Law Librarianship Program in 2024. I earned my JD from Duke in 2023 and graduated cum laude. I earned my BA in Politics from NYU in 2018 and graduated magna cum laude.

I post on topics that span my areas of intellectual interest. In terms of scholarship, I'm interested in the political economy of institutions and how that impacts the norms - particularly the moral norms - of people living in a given society. Overall, I'm interested in the role morality plays in the "why" and "how" of human cooperation.

As a law librarian, I'm interested in legal informatics and how developing technologies can be leveraged to improve access to information and better understand the law as it operates on the ground. This intersects with my interest in Critical Legal Information theory and how existing structures shape the way legal information is perceived and used.

Aside from my scholarly and professional projects, I sometimes write about ideas for economic cooperatives.

In my personal life, I'm an avid puzzler. I particularly enjoy jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, and word searches. I also enjoy reading and listening to audiobooks and podcasts.
